Eat the Soup
Let’s get real here, stress sucks.
There I said it.
Last week and into this past weekend. Stress hit me hard.
I felt the pressure of impending deadlines, potty training my two year old, sleepless nights with my 5 month old, and a death of someone in my family that was near and to me.
With all of that going on, I could feel my muscles start tensing up. My breathing became shallow and I felt one straw away from my camel’s back breaking. What did I do?
I would love to tell you that I immediately went to work putting into practice all the incredible tools that I have found to break the crazy stress cycle and get back on track.
The thing is I didn’t. I didn’t feel like it.
So oftentimes we know what we need to do, but it is a struggle to do it. I had a delicious Ayurvedic lemon ginger turkey and veggie soup sitting in the refrigerator, instead of eating it, I chose to let it continue to sit. I opted for chicken tenders and French fries with honey mustard dressing instead.
The thing is when we are in a toxic state, the body craves what hurts it, thereby throwing it even more out of sync. While my chicken tenders and fries sound like a harmless comfort food, they only added to my downward spiral. The comfort I hope to find only led me to a greasy stomach.
So what do you do when you are in the cycle?
Eat the soup. Do the yoga practice. Go for the walk.
Do the things that you don’t feel like doing. The thing about cycles, they are circles and circles are comfortable. There isn’t anything to change your direction.
It is in this place that you need a change of direction more than ever. I’m not saying that you have to get up and do a day’s worth of exercise in 30 minutes. No what I am saying is to take that first simple step out of the cycle.
What is the easiest, healthiest, most positive thing you can do for yourself right now?
Many times for me, that is brushing my teeth or taking a shower. You might think that is oversimplifying it. Believe me, it’s not. Taking that first step makes it easier to continue taking positive steps in the right direction which ultimately lead to a break in the stress cycle and a renewed sense of health and well being.
You don’t have to keep spiraling my friend.
Eat the soup.
